Preparatory Steps

 WARNING 

Batteries can emit explosive gases. To reduce the possibility of personal injury, always ventilate the compartment before servicing the batteries. To reduce the possibility of arcing, remove the negative (-) battery cable first and attach the negative (-) battery cable last.
  • Disconnect the batteries. Refer to the OEM service manual.
  • Disconnect the air supply line, if equipped, from the air starter.

Remove

 CAUTION 

Do not pry or pull on the fan. The fan blades can be damaged.

Remove the fan.

NOTE: Do not discard the fan spacers. The spacers provide the thickness needed to install the fan in the correct position.

Inspect for Reuse

 WARNING 

Do not straighten a bent fan blade or continue to use a damaged fan. A bent or damaged fan blade can fail during operation, causing serious personal injury or property damage.

Replace any original equipment fan that is damaged with a fan of the identical part number. Cummins Inc. must approve any other fan changes.

An inspection of the cooling fan is required daily.

Check for cracks, loose rivets, bent or loose blades, and for contact between the fan blade tips and the fan shroud.

Check the fan to make sure it is securely mounted. Tighten the capscrews, if necessary. Refer to the OEM service manual for fan capscrew torque value.

Replace any fan that is damaged.

Install

NOTE: Replace the original equipment fan with a fan of the identical part number. Cummins Inc. must approve any other fan changes.

Install the fan.

Tighten the mounting capscrews. Refer to OEM specifications.
